Description:

This project investigates the impact of systematic and prolonged Mental Practice (MP) on the technical and musical development of flutists within the Western concert tradition. Unlike previous studies that primarily focus on short-term benefits, this research is grounded in the hypothesis that sustained use of MP leads to measurable and consolidated improvements in performance.

A mixed-methods design is adopted, integrating the analysis of subjective data (experience reports) and objective data (biometric measures and acoustic analysis). The findings aim to inform optimized practice strategies, contributing to instrumental pedagogy and to musicians’ occupational health.
