Biography:

Guillermo de Llera Blanes is an ethnomusicologist, musician, multimedia artist, and digital musical instrument designer based in Portugal. He holds a PhD in Ethnomusicology from NOVA University Lisbon, where his research led to the development of Playability Theory and the MidiMbira, a hybrid instrument created through collaborative fieldwork in Mozambique. He is currently a visiting research-creator at IDMIL, developing the MidiMbira and other Digital Traditional Musical Instruments (DTMIs), with a focus on embodied interaction, instrument design, and DTMI performance.
