Overview

OM-Pursuit is a library for dictionary-based sound modelling in computer-aided composition.

The transcription of sound into parametric representations has often served as a conceptual model in computer-aided composition, and a number of software tools are available allowing composers to integrate signal and symbolic data within a compositional framework, such as extracting frequency structures from a sound fil…

Description

The project presents a proposal of study for development of graduate trainee internship at McGill University. The research looks for solutions to increase the effectiveness of immersion and interaction between the visitors and the computer system in the context of interactive installations. To this purpose, we propose strategies of mapping and sonification of parameters obtained from the analysis of interactive gestures performed by visitors.

Project Description

Sound can produce powerful emotional experiences: just think of the feeling induced by the sound of a baby crying or your favorite music! Sonification is field of research interested in the use of sound to convey information in general, but what happens when the data is emotional measurements? To display or communicate this data, I look to new music research, which points to a select group of emotionally salient acoustic cues. Choosing wisely, these can be borrowed and ap…
